Hello? Hellooo? Is this thing on?

So, it's been something like 2 years since I last posted. To tell you the truth, I wasn't even sure I knew what my url was anymore, but since EVERY ONE of my siblings has managed to post this week, I thought I would jump on board and test the waters a bit with this wee little picture. It's not much - I'm a little rusty -but this little imp just makes me all mushy inside and I wanted to share.

Happy Thursday!

You wanna piece of me?

This morning, on our way out the door, Derek and I were accosted in the stairwell by a mini lobster*. No joke. We walked down the stairs and at the bottom was this crustacean incarnation of Tony Micelli standing there ready to take us on. Tough guy was all, "ay-oh, oh-ay," swinging his pincers around and gettin' up in our bidness. We told him to simmer down, we don't pick fights with pint-sized crustaceans, but we did need to go to work. He grudgingly let us pass, though I swear I heard him call Derek a pantywaist as we walked by. Sheesh.

*My coworkers thought it was more likely that he was a crawfish. Could be, or maybe just a mini lobster.

Colonial in a can

Somedays going to work is so worthwhile. You just never know what you may run into.
What is it, you ask?

Trash, of course. It's written right there.

Now if only I had dared take picture of the sharpshooter I shared the elevator with the other day.

Scene: Farm Girl and Small Child sitting in the grass, petting a mangy farm cat.

Small Child: Are you a kid?

FG: No, I’m a grown up.

Small Child: (puzzled) At first I thought you were a mom…

FG: Nope, I don’t have any babies.

Small Child: Are you a teenager?

FG: No, just a grown up.

Small Child: (Continues to study FG confusedly and gives up. Finally, Small Child decides to change the subject.) Did you know that a fox ate all our chickens?

Random Bits of Nothingness

#1) Thanks to a random turn of events, Derek and I spent a magical evening at Stars on Ice. That's right, Stars. On. Ice. I was little disappointed there wasn't a giant skating teapot or candlestick, but you take what you can get.

#2) I don't know how many of you know this, but Derek is married to a True Aggie. One not-so-magical "A Day" night many years ago, I stood on a cement "A" with about a 1,000 other couples and kissed a boy. I think it's appropriate to share this tonight becasue our Aggies are in the big dance! Stu Morril has done it again, and tonight Derek is proud to be a True Aggie by proxy. Go Aggies!

C'mon, it's funny.

To Better Days

The weather man tells us that we're supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow tonight. Back home that would mean an early morning full of faceshots and fresh tracks. Here in D.C. it means nothing. Winter here is worthless. You get all the cold with none of the benefits.

While hunkered down staying out of the cold, I pieced together some footage from our last trip to the desert. Check it out in the sidebar or click here.

Inauguration in Obama-nation

We really didn't intend to go anywhere near the Mall on Inauguration Day, but sometimes old friends call you the day before with tickets they can't use and, well, plans change. Before you know it you are wearing three coats and standing in the middle of 1.8 million people.

And just in case you were wondering, it was totally and completely NUTS. Definitely worth it. Thanks Chris and Amy!
